Knitted jewellery

Knitted accessories can often look bulky and unwearable, but these sweet treats from Lady Luck are just adorable! Something to try throughout the summer months...

Non-knitting, I'm afraid

No knitting progress to speak of, I'm afraid (though I have just split for the neckline on Thermal!), but here's a couple of other crafty projects I've got on the go:

DIYed chest

The chest of drawers was rescued from the street and renovated with a lick of paint and some Paperchase paper, and the print on top of it is for sale on my brand-new etsy store. Read more about both projects on my other blog!

Yarn at Liberty

Mmmm, I think the yarn section in Liberty is the most lovely I've seen. The whole building has the feeling of a Tudor country pile, but the yarn section on third is particularly cosy and inviting - and it's mostly Rowan yarn so feels quintessentially English. They have a gorgeous selection of Rowan fabrics too and some lovely (if pricey) bags to tote your WIPS around in.

I knitted on the bus into work this morning! What a previously-wasted 20 minutes of the day, and Thermal, on a circular needle, is the perfect portable project. Seeing everyone's beautiful FOs on Ravelry has made me extra-determined to finally finish the damn thing. I'm not even ready to split for the neckline yet :(

Now on Ravelry

I got my Ravelry invite today! Upon logging in for the first time, I was extremely suprised (and momentarily a bit freaked out!) to find my own Buttony Sweater pattern on the very first page I visited - in fact, it's the 11th most popular cardigan on the site. Further poking around revealed my Razor Cami is the 10th most popular camisole design. It's very flattering (and still a little weird) to have this popularity when I'm by no means a 'real' pattern designer or writer. It's inspired me to tidy up the patterns, and work on some more in the near future.

Anyway, my Ravelry username is whatkatieknits so go connect up to me - I still don't have much idea what goes on in the world of Ravelry but I'm looking forward to exploring and getting involved.

I just ordered the yarn for my Gentle Fawn 'tribute' cardigan - some wool/acrylic blend Sirdar Click in a pretty shade of grey cutely called 'Mitten'. Here are my initial doodles and thoughts on the construction (click to see full-size).

Getting back on track

So my blog's looking a lot tidier now - let me know if you have any issues viewing the layout correctly. I'm glad I haven't been completely abandoned, thank you for all the welcome-backs! I've just signed up the cult of Ravelry, too - #1835 in line for my invite. I also need to update my daily reads, so please tell me about your favourite knit-bloggers.

I've been having a scout around for some inspiration on what to knit next. While at the V&A last week I picked up a copy of KnitKnit. I was surprised and happy to see Anna in it, and it has some really interesting stuff in (as well as some frankly ridiculous). Here are some other things I want to try my hand at, c/o notcouture:

I love the colours and shape of this - I'm already wondering the best way to construct that bias-knit panel.

My wardrobe is crying out for a chunky cardigan to see me through the chilly spring, and I love this Gentle Fawn one. The rounded front edges and pockets are particularly nice; I've never knitted a pocket before.

...Although I am visiting New York in a couple of weeks so I could just pick up the real thing! I can't wait to visit the legendary Purl in Soho, are there any other great yarn shops I shouldn't miss?
