i'm ravenclaw crazy :)

two blue and brown striped projects! tee hee

ravenclaw raglan
pattern: here.
mods: a few extra decrease rounds to make the neck higher; added button band
yarn: king cole merino wool dk which (a dream to work with and wear, and it's machine washable!) shades mink and slate blue, 3 balls of mink and 2 of blue
needles: 4.5mm circ (sleeves knit flat)
time: about a week
this was a fun, quick knit and i adore the final sweater.

capri cami
pattern: my own, i'll be writing it up soon
yarn: patons cotton rich dk, turquoise x1 and taupe x 2; rowan lurex shimmer
needles: 3.5mm circ
time: 4 days
the colours in this were inspired by the island of capri and the finished cami is a nice relaxed shape - it might work layered over a l/s in the autumn. i plan to make more of these, maybe without the button band.

Adore Ravenclaw... what a fun, flattering design! The speed with which you churn out projects is truly amazing, too :)

i realy like the colour effect of the blue and brown cami- i think you must have an eye for color, because i wouldnt think of those too, but they look great!

I love the first one :-) Somehow, it looks very different to the one from the pattern...*confused*

just shows what a difference changes in gauge and ease can make! i used smaller needles and thinner yarn, but cast on roughly the same amount of stitches. mine equals my measurements pretty much exactly so it's more fitted, the original one is probably 2-3" larger than her measurements.

Hm. Yeah. I do like your one more (because it's fitted). Was the patten easy to modify to adjust this? I haven't knit a sweater yet (though I'm dying to!).

all you have to do it figure out your gauge/tension (e.g. 6 sts = 1") and multiply that by the width you want the sweater to be. for a close fit make it exactly your measurement or maybe an inch less as wool stretches a lot.

OK then. Thanks! I really can't wait to make my first sweater, but I'm going to be bogged down with Xmas presents to do until december :S

I love your sweaters, especially the raglan, it looks so much better fitted.
What's your secret though? How on earth do you manage to afford all this yarn on a student budget?

twiglet queen - i'm eating into my autumn/winter clothing allowance - my reasoning is i'll wear my handknits all winter! plus i'm a bargain hunter - the yarn for the sweater was about £10 from texere.co.uk and the cami about £6 from ebay!
